Our home - just a 2 minute stroll to the beautiful Bay of Quinte & its waterfront trails, and a short walk to downtown shopping & live theatre.
Belleville is a fairly small community of just 40,000 or so people centred in what has traditionally been a very rural landscape. Because of its picturesque location on the shores of Lake Ontario, and its proximity to some truly magnificent beaches, it has just begun to blossom as a tourist destination. The large bridge in my second photo is located within minutes of our home and is the major link to Prince Edward County, often referred to as Quinte's Isle. The county is home to numerous wineries and intriguing villages with some incredible restaurants and boutiques.

One of the attractions of Belleville is its great central location for exploring Ontario. It lies midway between Canada's two largest cities, Montreal and Toronto, one French, the other English - both definitely worth a visit. Our nation's capital, Ottawa, is just three hours away by car. Quebec City, an absolute must see, is eight hours from Belleville, and is definitely worth spending a couple of days away from home. Within an hours drive of Belleville are the smaller cities of Kingston, Cobourg and Peterborough - all are amazing. If you want to travel down into the States, the Canada / USA border is within a two hour drive. And of course Niagara Falls - easily visited in a day trip.
If you like to travel by rail, our home is just a 5 minute drive from a full service train station. By bus? Again, there is a terminal just minutes from our home.
But I also love Belleville just for itself - it has great walking and cycling trails along the Bay of Quinte and the Moira River. Basically, from our house you can easily cycle or walk to any part of the city. Our downtown is just a ten minute walk away and it has has some great restaurants, a beautiful library, a really neat bookstore and a wonderful theatre, which features some great live entertainment, as well as the cream of the movie crop.

Belleville is also home to a number of beautiful golf courses, superb fishing, an excellent public transit system and of course a fairly large mall complete with a multiplex cinema complex and Chapters book store.

In short, a vacation in Belleville gives you the opportunity to explore life in a small Ontario town with the easy option of day trips to two of North America's largest, and most exciting cities.
