Sun Peaks is one of North America's top ski destinations and Canada's second largest. It is known as an uncrowded family resort with minimal lineups and excellent powder skiing with an average annual snowfall of 559 cm. (220 in.) of snow. The pretty Austrian style village has over 40 eateries ranging from fine dining to a slice of pizza and lots of attractive shops.
Winter activities include downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, tubing, skating and ice hockey. There are 126 down hill trails covering 4,200 acres and over 30 kms. of groomed cross country trails as well as a 9 acre terrain park. Ski with, or go Christmas caroling with, Canada's Olympic champion Nancy Green. Cross country ski to a log cabin on McGillivray Lake. Go on a romantic evening horse drawn sleigh ride on a crisp, sparkling night. Enjoy participating in the torchlight ski parade down Tod mountain on New Years Eve. Swim under the stars in the heated outdoor public pool at the sports and aquatic centre. Sun Peaks is indeed a winter wonderland with lots of snow and beautiful chalets which is reminiscent of quaint European resorts.
In the summer, Sun Peaks is equally appealing with many possible activities. There are two, newly resurfaced, free tennis courts at the sports and aquatic centre in the village. Horseback riding is also available. A chairlift takes you to the beautiful alpine flower meadows. There is an abundance of hiking trails to suit hikers of all abilities. Geocaching is another popular activity with many geocaches to be found in and around the village. Hike or drive to the unspoiled and beautiful McGillivray Lake where you can rent a canoe or kayak and spend hours enjoying the outstanding surrounding nature. A fifteen minute drive will take you to Heffley Lake where boats and canoes can be rented to fish or explore the lake where you may see loons, osprey nesting, blue herons and turtles sunning themselves on floating logs. There is a small beach where you can enjoy swimming in the very pristine lake. Mountain biking at Sun Peaks is very popular for the more adventuresome. With its 37 trails, Sun Peaks is rated as one of the top ten mountain biking locations in the world. Enjoy a few rounds of golf at the renowned 18 hole course designed by Graham Cooke, the highest golf course in Canada at 1200 metres above sea level. There are events on weekends such as music concerts, collector car shows, art workshops, a quilt show, alpine flower festival and a weekly farmers and crafters market.
Our 2,000 square foot chalet is cozy, comfortable and beautifully decorated with lots of collectables, original watercolours and some antiques. The main floor looks out onto the golf course and there is a deck and patio where outdoor meals or lounging can be enjoyed. The kitchen is very well equipped and is open to the dining and living area. While the chalet is heated by a gas, forced air furnace, the stone fireplace is a cozy feature on a cool summer evening or a chilly winter day. There are two bedrooms and a full bathroom on this level as well. Stairs lead to a private loft and master bedroom with a king size, memory foam bed and an ensuite bathroom. Wake up to the beautiful unobstructed views for miles down the valley. On the basement level, there is a large family room and games area with lots of games for all ages and a large utility/laundry area and full bathroom. There is also a ski storage locker by the front door. The chalet has a monitored security system.
The chalet is in a small enclave surrounded by woods and the golf course. There is a beautiful year round walkway beside the golf course right into the village. Just steps away from the chalet is a free ski bus shuttle into the village that operates most of the winter. One of the chairlifts is within walking distance from the chalet.
Winter or summer, this is a beautiful spot for those who love nature and the outdoors. Sun Peaks is located just a 45 minute drive north of Kamloops, a city which is served by Canada's two largest airlines. A year round shuttle service is available from the Kamloops airport and, in the winter, from the Kelowna airport and Vancouver airports.
