San Miguel de Allende is a Unesco World Heritage Site, and carries the Mexican designation of "Pueblo Magico" (Magical Town), and is consistently in Conde Nast's top 3 travel destinations. It was founded in the mid 1500's by Spanish monks, is the birthplace of the Mexican War of Independence in 1810 as well as a significant player in the 1910 Revolution. For the past 60 years it has been renowned as an artists haven owing to it two art schools and its festivals of every genre, from chamber music to Cuban , an international film festival, annual writer's conference, opera, dance, jazz, visual arts and even an equinox concert in the rocky canyon of the local botanical gardens.
An old mill has been converted into an art certer with galleries, restaurants and artists studios. Live music and dancing, ranging from Latin, blues and rock will keep you entertained by night while classes in yoga, cooking, foreign languages, lectures and art films, hiking, biking and kayaking in the local lake, or a trek to the newly excavated archeological site can satisfy any interest by day.
With a spring climate year round, and dry air from the central high desert, you can enjoy the hotsprings year round. Follow the link http://treatsmagazine.com/articles/san-miguel-de-allende/ for more information about the wonders of San Miguel de Allende.
