Our home for 25 years (half its life!), we have turned this 1950s cottage into a cool haven of beauty and comfort: gorgeous terrazzo kitchen, mosaic fountain, plunge pool & courtyard, citrus trees & date palms, terracotta floor tiles, and artworks, including my own, everywhere. Our latest addition is my studio, shaded in summer, full of light in winter. When the desert heat is at its most intense, our home is the perfect retreat. Catlovers beware: we have 3 irresistible felines - 2 burmese & a bengal - (but if you're not into cats, we won't leave them in your care!).

We are 10 minutes' walk from the centre of town, but only one minute's walk from the very edge of Alice and the beautiful bushland Old Telegraph Station reserve. When the dry Todd Riverbed 100 metres at the end of our street flows, much of the town (of about 27,000) comes out to see. Alice Springs ('Mparntwe' in the local Arrernte language) is set in the MacDonnell Ranges, which offer stunning scenery, delicious waterholes and spectacular gorges. Uluru (Ayers Rock) is 5 hours away by road. Alice is a tourist town, and also the centre of the extraordinary Western Desert arts movement, with galleries lining the main street. You will be able to use our car.

I, Pip am an artist. My partner, Russell, is a legal aid lawyer (who has some long-service leave coming up!). Although we have long since made Alice Springs our permanent home, we love travelling to recharge our batteries, re-open our eyes, and learn other languages and ways of life. We have never tried home exchange before, but we're excited about the idea.
